Not far from the Grand-Place, Vilaine Fille Mauvais Garçon welcomes you in a former 18th century house that has been given a contemporary makeover. The furniture, the lighting and the cleverly chosen materials create a unique atmosphere. The relaxed, understated ambiance gives you the chance to appreciate inventive, seasonal dishes, in which the focus is on the flavours. The restaurant’s name is slightly provocative (it means naughty girl, bad boy), a nod to Serge Gainsbourg, but it hides an innovative gourmet restaurant that combines culinary expertise with a light, casual touch. The man with the cabbage head would not have been disappointed. Right from the outset, this imposing 18th century building near the Grand-Place in Mons flaunts its relaxed credentials: refined materials, clever lighting, a contemporary, clean, even minimalist décor on the ground floor, create a lovely feeling of space and peace. Upstairs, imbued with an old-fashioned ambiance, there’s a terrace decorated with matte, shadowy tones where you can soak up the last rays of sunshine. The music is down tempo, with hints of jazz, creating the perfect intimate, welcoming atmosphere. But if you go to Vilaine Fille, Mauvais Garçon, it is above all for the reputation that this restaurant and its young team have built up for themselves. Their enthusiasm and audacity breathe new life into the great classics of French cuisine. This restaurant was awarded the “Prix de la Rénovation Urbaine” as part of the Prix Mercure 2011.
