Herchies Castle

In Herchies, there is an imposing medieval fortress. The dungeon, made of bricks, was built between the 14th and the 15th centuries. At the end of the 16th century, the Berlaymont family built a castle, which was abandoned until 1901. At that time, Canon Puissant bought the site, dug the moat and reconstructed the buildings. A lawyer lived in the castle for a while and then a community of Benedictines settled in it and the castle became a priory.
