    A team-building sensation that challenges the olfactory senses.
    Signature ‘scents’ are big business. But behind the glossy ads are teams of professional alchemists, experimenting with all manner of exotic extracts to capture the essence of their celebrity endorsers.

    Essence of Excellence places teams in this demanding role, presenting a challenge to create and blend an individual fragrance that appeals to a given target market.

    Perfumery is an emotive business; teams will work swiftly and efficiently, carefully choosing ingredients with a range of moods and character traits. Successful teams will understand the world from their customer’s perspective, aiming to produce both a new fragrance and an associated targeted marketing campaign to a tight deadline.

    Having learnt the basic techniques of perfumery, teams blend base, mid and top ‘notes’ to create a ready-to-wear fragrance. Essence of Excellence is by no means restricted to female fragrances; some teams will be working with unisex and male customer profiles.

    Positioned as a breakout session or evening entertainment, Essence of Excellence provides a fun context to explore company values and customer satisfaction, network or improve team communication.

    Participants learn the basics of perfumery and digest some revealing industry insight placing this exercise in a business context.

    00:10 - 00:15

    Each team are assigned random customer profiles that define their target market. Importantly each profile is very different, a team could receive male, female or unisex market sectors.

    00:15 - 00:30

    By studying the key ingredients and the emotional characteristics of each blend teams begin to understand how Top, Mid and Base perfume ‘notes’work together, creating both an impactful and lasting fragrance that appeals to
    their given market.

    Guided through this process with handy work sheets teams place themselves in their costumer’s shoes
    working through their sample bottles, smelling, discussing and combing blends to evoke the desired emotive response.

    00:45 - 01:00
    Pipettes at fingertips, this crucial stage puts teams to the test as the subtle quantities of each blend can make or break their fragrance. Meanwhile a sub team works simultaneously to create a mood board that defines their Brand Essence.

    01:00 - 01:30
    The finished fragrance samples are submitted in secret bottles. The challenge is now for teams engage their olfactory senses and match the correct fragrance with the correct customer profile! Bonus scores are also awarded for brandingand improvised product advertisements.
