In the early twentieth century, Norbert Ghisoland opened a photographic studio in Frameries in the Borinage, and worked with a view camera there under a glass roof, in natural light. In the course of 37 years, he took more than 90,000 photographs on glass plates. Tens of thousands of people passed in front of his lens: members of the bourgeoisie, miners, soldiers, priests, sportsmen. People of all ages – even dogs.
